Today’s agriculture is increasingly attentive to the impact of its activities and the monitoring of production: for this reason Agricolus is enriched with two new features that support the farmer with the control of the company’s sustainability and in the creation of production lots.
A more sustainable agriculture
For years now, FAO and the European Union have been working to achieve sustainability objectives with the aim of satisfying the needs of current generations, without penalizing those of future generations
The primary sector is required to increase productivity, employment and added value and at the same time protect natural resources by reducing pollution, consumption and loss of biodiversity.
Precision agriculture helps us in this by offering systems such as forecast models, prescription maps and Decision Support Systems, which allow us to optimize production by reducing waste.
Agricolus sustainability indicators
The “Sustainability” section has been added to the platform, which offers economic and environmental indices with which the farmer can evaluate the sustainability of his company.
It is possible to calculate the indicators grouped by production unit, field or crop; furthermore, you can analyze your performance by comparing yourself with self-assigned objectives or those set by external technicians, monitoring compliance
Economic sustainability indicators monitor crop yields and production per hectare, while environmental indicators allow us to keep water consumption, nutrient supply, use of plant protection products and biodiversity under control.
This feature is also present in AgriTrack, the Agricolus tool for the supply chain, so that all organizations in the agricultural sector (cooperatives, trade associations, distributors) can monitor the economic and environmental impact of the companies participating in production and contribute to the sustainability of the sector.
New types of indicators for agriculture will be implemented, including those of social sustainability, thanks to the continuous work of the Research and Development area combined with the collaboration with SATA.
A safer supply chain
The agri-food supply chain means the set of production, transformation and distribution activities through which an agricultural product reaches the hands of the consumer.
Traceability is the process that follows the product from upstream to downstream of the supply chain, and ensures that appropriate information is released about it at each stage; on the contrary, tracing is the process that allows us to collect all the traces left along the production process and trace the operations carried out upstream from any point of the supply chain
A traceable supply chain allows to gain consumer trust, facilitate the intervention of the health authority in the event of emergencies and improve the control and management of production systems.
The new feature Production lots
The production lost are a functional tool for product traceability, as they link the foodstuffs to all the information concerning them: producing company, positioning of the field, date of delivery, crop operations carried out; in this way the processing company that receives the product will be able to easily access all this data
In Agricolus the farmer can create and modify the lots and subsequently generate a QR code through which any technician in the supply chain can access the product history.
The advantage is to make smoother the creation of complete and rich in information production lots, as they allow to keep track of all the operations carried out in each field, associating them directly with the harvest.
